German singer Vanessa Mai has responded to online criticism regarding her revealing stage costumes. In her podcast “Schön laut,” co-hosted with Lola Weippert, the 34-year-old artist explained that her choice of clothing, which often includes crop tops, miniskirts, and shorts, is driven by both personal style and practical necessity.

Mai stated that minimal clothing allows her to move freely while singing and dancing and helps prevent overheating during high-energy performances. She noted that her preferred look consists of bikini tops paired with baggy jeans. The singer expressed frustration with allegations that women use revealing outfits to compensate for a lack of musical talent, emphasizing that she views her clothing as a fashion choice rather than a sexualized tool.

Inspired by pop icons such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, Mai clarified that she does not inherently view her outfits as erotic. She also addressed a recent incident where a fan reportedly offered 1,000 euros for her worn underwear, an interaction she described as “weird.”
