Singkawang officials promote cultural preservation and city branding

During the 2026 Singkawang Regional Cultural Week, Singkawang Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie called on all sectors of society to actively participate in preserving and developing local culture. He emphasized that cultural preservation is a collective responsibility involving the government, educational institutions, artists, and traditional leaders to ensure local wisdom is passed down to future generations.

In a related discussion at the Association of All Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) cultural sector meeting in Singkawang, West Kalimantan Deputy Governor Krisantus Kurniawan encouraged local governments to utilize culture as a form of city branding. He noted that cultural assets should not merely serve as historical heritage or performances but should be developed into unique identities that attract tourists and provide economic value to local residents.
