Single crystal AlN substrate market to reach $61.97 million by 2026
The global market for single crystal Aluminum Nitride (AlN) substrate wafers is projected to grow from an estimated $55.32 million in 2025 to $61.97 million in 2026. According to a report by QY Research, the market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.5%, reaching $119 million by 2032.
AlN is a fourth-generation semiconductor material characterized by a wide bandgap, high thermal conductivity, and radiation resistance. These properties make it essential for deep ultraviolet (UVC) LEDs, laser diodes, and high-frequency or high-voltage power semiconductors. While the market has been driven by UVC LED applications, demand is diversifying into RF and power semiconductor sectors.
Industry shifts are notable, such as Asahi Kasei’s decision to cease UVC LED device production at its US subsidiary, Crystal IS, to focus on developing 100 mm (4-inch) single crystal AlN substrates. Transitioning from the standard 2-inch wafers to larger diameters is a key technical challenge aimed at improving chip yield and compatibility with existing manufacturing equipment. The market remains oligopolistic, with key players including HexaTech, Crystal IS, Nitride Crystals, Ultratrend Technologies, and CETC-46.
