Single-leg balance test serves as indicator of aging and physical health

Medical experts suggest that the ability to stand on one leg for a specific duration can serve as a simple indicator of physical health and the aging process. This test evaluates the coordination between muscles, joints, nerves, eyes, the inner ear, and the brain.

According to medical professionals, including Dr. Yoshua Quinones and Dr. David Cutler, the results can be interpreted as follows:

• Over 30 seconds: Generally good balance and reassuring physical condition. • 10 to 30 seconds: Potential decline in balance that requires continued monitoring. • Under 10 seconds: Significant limitations in balance, particularly in older adults.

An inability to stand on one leg may indicate a need to assess muscle strength, gait, and the risk of falls.
