Prague's high rent leaves singles with the lowest disposable income in the Czech Republic

An analysis by consultancy Moore shows that single residents of Prague have the smallest amount of money left after paying housing costs in the Czech Republic. Average rent for a 65‑square‑metre apartment in the capital is about 28,600 CZK per month, roughly 74 % of the median net salary of 38,476 CZK. After covering rent, a typical single household retains only around 6,919 CZK for food, entertainment and other expenses.

By contrast, single earners in the Ústí nad Labem region keep about 15,217 CZK after rent, where a comparable apartment costs 13,065 CZK, or 42 % of the local median wage. The study also notes that housing prices per square metre in Prague are 3.3‑3.4 times higher than in regions such as Ústí or Karlovy Vary. The steep cost burden is worsening the purchasing power of Prague’s solo dwellers, especially younger adults, and is expected to further reduce real living standards as rent consumes an ever‑larger share of income.
