Singleton dairy farm implements Australia’s first 1,200-cow recycled manure system
Daniel Redgrove, a fifth-generation dairy farmer at the Scotts Flat property in Singleton, has implemented Australia’s first recycled manure system for a 1,200-cow operation. The initiative aims to enhance sustainability and long-term farm viability.
Redgrove, who manages the 118-year-old family farm alongside his wife and parents, developed the system after observing international dairy farming practices in Canada and the United States. The system involves flood-washing barns every six hours and collecting the effluent for processing, a method Redgrove believes integrates environmental sustainability with profitability.
