Singlife extends health insurance to foreigners in Singapore

Singlife has extended its Singlife Shield and Singlife Health Plus insurance plans to eligible foreigners living, working, or studying in Singapore. Singlife Shield Plan 1 offers coverage for private hospital treatments with a policy year limit of up to S$2 million. Through a partnership with IHH Healthcare Singapore, policyholders can access over 700 medical specialists. Singlife Shield Plan 2 provides coverage for Class A wards in public hospitals with a S$1.2 million policy year limit.

A Singlife study regarding critical illness costs highlights the financial challenges faced by patients. The research found that critical illness patients in Singapore may face approximately S$36,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductibles and co-payments, despite having hospitalization insurance.

The study estimated that the total cost of treatment and recovery—including rehabilitation, medication, and specialist consultations—can reach about S$169,000. Findings indicated that 96% of survivors encountered unexpected expenses, and four in five utilized retirement savings to cover these costs. The average recovery period was noted at 27 months.
