Sinhagad Fort tourists allegedly assaulted over clothing

At least four tourists, including a woman, were allegedly assaulted at Sinhagad Fort near Pune on a Sunday afternoon. The attacks reportedly occurred between 2 pm and 5 pm after members of a group objected to the tourists' choice of clothing, specifically the wearing of shorts.

Videos of the altercations have circulated on social media. According to the Pune Rural Police, a case has been registered against eight members of the Samast Hindu Bandhav Army, including three women. The charges include assault, rioting, unlawful assembly, and criminal intimidation.

One victim, a 39-year-old senior manager, reported that the group approached his family after they visited the memorial of Tanaji Malusare. Witnesses alleged that the aggressors used remarks regarding adherence to “Hindu culture” to justify the physical violence. Police investigations indicate that other visitors may have also experienced similar disturbances at the fort during the same period.
