Sinn Féin announces candidates for South Belfast and Mid Down

Sinn Féin has named Deirdre Hargey and Pat Cullen as its candidates for the new South Belfast and Mid Down constituency in the upcoming Northern Ireland Assembly election.

Michelle O’Neill, Sinn Féin Leas Uachtarán, stated that the party aims to make history by electing two MLAs in this constituency. Hargey is a sitting MLA, while Cullen is the current MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone and the former leader of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

Cullen, who transitioned to politics after leading the RCN through UK-wide nursing strikes and the Covid-19 pandemic, noted her career-long commitment to the health service. The party expressed confidence in building upon its previous record vote in the area to secure both seats.
