Sinop adopts ten‑year plan to combat domestic violence against women

The municipality of Sinop, Brazil, convened a technical forum that brought together the city hall, the Public Prosecutor's Office, specialized police units, justice officials and civil‑society groups to draft a Municipal Decennial Plan for confronting domestic and family violence against women. Participants were divided into working groups covering four thematic axes – Education and Communication, Attendance and Public Safety, Justice and Victim Assistance, and Governance – to define targets, indicators and actions.

The plan aims to unify the response chain for victims, improve rapid protection orders, expand legal and psychological support, and secure state and federal funding through the Ministry of Women and the State Government. Officials highlighted the inclusion of vulnerable populations such as Black, Indigenous and quilombola women, and the role of the Maria da Penha patrol and specialized women’s defense police in reducing revictimisation. Once approved, the document will be formalized by mayoral decree and submitted to higher authorities for resource allocation.
