Brazil beef exports face market shifts amid Sinop growth and trade restrictions
Brazil's agribusiness sector is navigating a complex landscape of market expansion and trade restrictions. The municipality of Sinop has seen significant growth, with beef exports reaching US$ 70.9 million between January and September 2026, a 27.75% increase over the total for 2025.
Nationally, the Ministry of Agriculture reports that the opening of 700 new markets since 2023 has generated over R$ 20 billion in business. However, the beef sector faces challenges, including a sharp decline in Chinese imports due to quota limits and restrictions from the European Union regarding antimicrobials. While export volumes for in natura beef fell by nearly 40% in the first week of October 2026 compared to the previous year, international prices have remained high.
Market analysts note that despite lower volumes from China, the scarcity of animals for slaughter and high demand for live cattle exports are sustaining high prices for the 'arroba' of beef. Rabobank highlights that Brazil has consolidated its position as the world's largest beef producer and exporter, leveraging a massive herd and productivity gains to compete globally, even as trade dynamics shift.
