Sinop celebrates 52 years of urban and economic development
The city of Sinop, located in Mato Grosso, is celebrating its 52nd anniversary, marking its evolution from a forested region into a major economic and service hub. The city's history is characterized by a transition from the timber industry to a strong agribusiness and service-based economy.
Pioneers like Joaquim Corrêa, who arrived in the 1970s, recount the manual labor required to clear land for neighborhoods such as Jardim das Violetas and major thoroughfares like Avenida das Itaúbas. Early colonization efforts focused on encouraging rapid housing construction to support migrating families.
Modern development in Sinop is driven by strategic urban planning. Klayton Gonçalves, Secretary of Government and Strategic Planning, highlighted the importance of the Master Plan in managing expansion. Current infrastructure projects include the duplication of Avenida André Maggi, which aims to improve integration with the BR-163 highway.
