Sinop council members seek suspension of tax collections for small businesses
In Sinop, local council members have formally requested the municipal finance department to suspend tax collection notifications issued to small business owners and service providers. The request follows an electronic data cross-referencing process that identified fiscal discrepancies.
Councilman Ademir Debortoli, who initiated the request, expressed concern that the current enforcement method could lead to widespread unemployment by making it impossible for small enterprises—such as mechanics, electricians, and beauty salons—to continue operating. While not questioning the legality of tax oversight, lawmakers are urging the city to evaluate the economic impact on entrepreneurs who may lack formal accounting structures.
