Sinop forest fire suspect arrested after trash fire spreads
A suspect has been arrested following a forest fire in the Gerze district of Sinop, Turkey. The fire, which occurred near the Derecuma Mosque on the road connecting Gerze and Boyabat, was triggered when flames from burning trash spread to the surrounding forested area due to wind.
The blaze damaged a total of 5 hectares, consisting of 1 hectare of state forest land and 4 hectares of private property. Emergency response efforts involved 50 personnel from the Forestry Directorate, Sinop Municipality firefighters, and local gendarmerie teams, who successfully brought the fire under control.
Following an investigation by the Gerze Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 54-year-old business owner Fahri Ulusoy was detained. He was subsequently remanded in custody by the Gerze Criminal Court of Peace.
