Sinop hosts inaugural Riyale Hüseyin Paşa Swimming Races
The inaugural Riyale Hüseyin Paşa Swimming Races were held in Akliman, Sinop, to preserve the city’s maritime heritage and promote water sports. Organized by the Sinop Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the 1853 Youth and Sports Club, the event drew athletes from Sinop and the neighboring provinces of Amasya, Kastamonu, and Samsun.
During the event, Sinop Governor Mustafa Özarslan highlighted the city’s 175-kilometer coastline and its deep maritime history, noting the importance of passing this legacy to future generations. Mehmet Kalyon, the Sinop Provincial Director of Youth and Sports, emphasized the significance of naming the race after Riyale Hüseyin Paşa, a figure central to the city’s historical memory.
In addition to the swimming competition, the Erfelek Youth Center organized a kite festival. Participants flew kites as a gesture of solidarity and hope for children in Gaza and Palestine. The event concluded with an awards ceremony where winners received medals and prizes.
