Sinop municipality launches campaign urging use of regulated taxis and app rides

The Sinop city government, through its Secretariat of Security and Traffic, has started a public awareness campaign to combat clandestine transportation. Residents and visitors are instructed to request rides only through officially registered applications or accredited municipal taxis, a message displayed on municipal channels and advertising panels at locations such as the Presidente João Batista Figueiredo Airport.

Officials highlighted safety benefits: the platforms verify driver backgrounds, require documented employment status on the driver's license, and provide passenger insurance. Urbano Norte manager Marcelo Silva noted that the local presence of the app allows quick support for passengers. The Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) is cooperating with the campaign, conducting patrols and inspections to deter illegal drivers, and the Secretariat has opened a WhatsApp hotline (66 99219‑3246) for reporting irregular transport.

Secretary Wesney Sodré and GCM sub‑commander Cruz stressed that the initiative seeks to protect the public, strengthen lawful transport services, and reduce the risks associated with unregulated rides.
