Sinop municipality reinstates food security council to boost anti‑hunger policies

The municipal government of Sinop, Brazil, reactivated the Municipal Food Security and Nutrition Council (COMSEA) through its Secretary of Social Assistance. The reinstatement aligns with Sinop's participation in the federal Brazil Without Hunger protocol, which aims to strengthen coordination between public authorities and civil society on food security.

An official installation meeting on Friday, March 3, appointed council members and elected a governing board for the 2026‑2028 term. COMSEA serves as a consultative and advisory body that facilitates continual dialogue between the municipality and civil society, proposes measures to improve access to food, promotes nutrition education, monitors the implementation of public policies, and enhances community participation in combating hunger.

The council's revival is presented as a significant step in improving the governance of food and nutrition policies in Sinop, expanding the local social protection network, and working toward reducing vulnerability and ensuring adequate food for the population.
