Sinop receives 5,826 contraceptive implants to expand health services

The city of Sinop, Mato Grosso, has received a shipment of 5,826 Implanon contraceptive implants from the Brazilian Ministry of Health. This delivery is part of a larger distribution of 10,200 units to the state of Mato Grosso, with Sinop receiving approximately 57% of the total via the State Health Secretariat.

Sinop began offering this long-acting subdermal contraceptive method in September 2025. By September 2026, the municipality had already performed 2,964 insertions. Local health officials stated that the significant volume of the new shipment is a result of the city’s investment in training teams, organizing resources, and maintaining accurate data records, which helps the Ministry of Health plan future distributions.

The new supply is intended to expand availability within the Primary Health Care network, reduce existing waiting lists, and ensure continuity of reproductive planning services for women in the region.
