Sinop University hosts academic year opening and regional university union meeting

The 2026-2027 academic year opening ceremony was held at Sinop University, attended by the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. During the event, Özvar emphasized that universities must take responsibility for social, cultural, and economic issues affecting the nation, beyond their core duties of scientific and technological development.

Özvar also addressed the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ goal, stating that the higher education community has a critical role in supporting national unity and security through academic activities such as conferences and panels.

Additionally, a joint meeting of the Eastern Black Sea and Western Black Sea University Unions was hosted by Sinop University. The meeting focused on enhancing academic cooperation, sharing expertise, and developing joint projects. Prof. Dr. Fatih Yılmaz, Rector of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, participated in the discussions, highlighting efforts to improve educational quality and international collaborations through the Anatolian Universities Union.
