Sinop wildlife sighting: Harpy eagle pair recorded near Teles Pires River
A pair of harpy eagles, recognized as the largest eagles in the Americas, was recorded in late August in a forested area near the Teles Pires River in Sinop, Brazil. The sighting occurred in the Praia do Cortado region.
Bird photographer and observer Luigi Seronni, a member of the Sinop Bird Observation Group (GOA), captured the footage using camera traps. Seronni, who has monitored the specific location for approximately three years, noted that the presence of the eagles was a significant surprise as they had not been previously observed in that area.
The recording highlights the biodiversity of Sinop, which sits in a transition zone between the Amazon and Cerrado biomes. According to the WikiAves platform, the municipality has 586 registered bird species.
