Sinpro-Rio demands labor guarantees after Botafogo school closure

The Rio de Janeiro Teachers' Union (Sinpro-Rio) has requested an urgent meeting with the administration of Colégio Imaculada Conceição in Botafogo following the announcement that the institution will close at the end of this year. The closure is expected to affect approximately 50 teachers and 40 staff members.

Sinpro-Rio president Elson Paiva is seeking guarantees regarding labor payments, including 13th-month salaries, vacation pay, and FGTS indemnities. The union is also seeking clarity on the transition for the school's 300 students and the future of the historic building, which was constructed in 1854. There are concerns that the site, originally commissioned by Dom Pedro II, could be subject to real estate speculation.
