Sint Jansklooster prepares for annual flower parade

The Corso Sint Jansklooster flower parade is drawing significant national and regional media attention as preparations reach their final stages. Approximately 2,500 volunteers are currently working to complete twelve parade floats, which will feature millions of dahlias.

To ensure sustainability, each float construction association maintains its own dahlia field. The organizers also collaborate with other flower parades across the Netherlands to exchange blooms. Due to recent wet weather, flower picking was briefly delayed, but volunteers have since begun harvesting tens of thousands of dahlias per field.

Because certain colors, such as blue, do not occur naturally in dahlias, organizers use a specialized process to create them. In makeshift flower laboratories, workers use concrete mixers and color powder to dye the flowers to meet the specific design requirements of the parade floats.
