Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and Drogenbos appeal wind turbine permit
The municipalities of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and Drogenbos have launched a joint appeal against a conditional permit granted by Minister Jo Brouns for a wind turbine at the Allnex site, located on the border of Drogenbos and Ruisbroek.
Local officials argue the location is unsuitable for additional wind infrastructure in a densely populated area. Environment Alderman Jeroen Tiebout noted that while the region has already hosted seven wind turbines along the canal, further expansion should be directed toward less populated areas, such as near the Brussels ring road.
Mayor Calmeyn expressed concerns that the decision contradicts established decrees regarding the required distance from residential homes. He suggested the project primarily benefits the operator Luminus and the consumer Allnex, while potentially causing negative impacts on residents' living environments and property values. The local government is calling for a review of the decision and the investigation of alternatives, such as increased solar panel installation.
