The Secretaria da Inclusão e Transtorno do Espectro Autista (Sintea) organized the “Encontro Mães Atípicas” on 28 August, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Biblioteca Municipal in Sorocaba. The event, limited to a set number of participants, aimed to share knowledge, strengthen support networks and promote inclusive practices for families of people with autism spectrum disorder (TEA).
Key sessions included a talk on cognitive rigidity in autism by Tuane Mendes, a psychology student and mother of an autistic child, and a presentation on how Augmentative and Alternative Communication (CAA) can reduce challenging behaviours by speech‑language therapist Milena Domingues. Organisers emphasized the importance of fostering autonomy, participation and community dialogue for autistic individuals and their families.
