Sinti and Roma Council files charges against AfD leader Tino Chrupalla

The Central Council of German Sinti and Roma has filed a criminal complaint and a request for prosecution against AfD co-chairman Tino Chrupalla. The legal action alleges incitement to hatred and insult.

The complaint stems from remarks made by Chrupalla during a campaign event in Grimmen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on August 29. While discussing the discovery of weapons and ammunition in a forest area near Berlin, Chrupalla stated that the items were “probably lost by some Gypsies there while mushroom picking.”

Romani Rose, chairman of the Central Council, described the comments as a targeted disparagement of the Sinti and Roma community. Rose stated that the incident is not merely about protecting a minority, but is a matter of “securing democracy, the rule of law, and peace,” accusing the AfD of being a party of division that endangers Germany’s international reputation.
