Sintra and Queluz National Palace gardens allow dogs

Companion dogs are once again permitted in the gardens of the Sintra and Queluz National Palaces, as well as the Capuchos Convent. Announced by Parques de Sintra to coincide with Animal Day, the measure went into effect on October 4. This decision restores a historical tradition from over a century ago when dogs were part of the daily lives of the Portuguese Royal Family.

These sites join the Moorish Castle and Monserrate Park, which have previously allowed canine access. To accommodate pets, the sites have installed water stations, waste bag dispensers, and designated safe areas where animals can remain while owners visit restricted zones. While entry for dogs is free, visitors must obtain an access ticket at the monument entrances. To protect heritage, flora, and fauna, specific rules apply, including the mandatory use of non-extendable leashes.
