Sintra announces month of free archaeological activities

The municipality of Sintra has announced a series of free cultural activities scheduled throughout September to highlight the region's archaeological and historical heritage. The program aims to decentralize cultural offerings by bringing historical collections closer to their original discovery sites across various locations, including Odrinhas, Armés, Janas, Praia das Maçãs, and the Sintra Mountains.

Key events include a tour of the Barreira Megalithic Complex, a Roman cooking workshop, and visits to the Roman villa ruins in São Miguel de Odrinhas. Other scheduled activities feature explorations of the Moorish Castle, the Tholos do Monge prehistoric burial site, and medieval Islamic sites such as the Ribat do Alto da Vigia. The program also includes behind-the-scenes access to the Conservation and Restoration Laboratory at the São Miguel de Odrinhas Archaeological Museum (MASMO).
