Sintra approves 244,000 euros for water tariff support

The Sintra Municipality has approved 244,000 euros to maintain social benefits for water and sanitation services. This funding ensures the continuity of the 'Tarifa Social' and 'Tarifa Sintra Solidária' programs.

The measures target families facing economic hardship, including beneficiaries of the Social Insertion Income (RSI), holders of the 'Sintra D’Ouro' card, and unemployed individuals registered with the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).

Under these programs, eligible beneficiaries receive free access to the first five cubic meters of water consumption, including corresponding sanitation services. The initiative also includes exemptions from tariffs associated with water, sanitation, and urban waste services to reduce the financial burden on vulnerable households. Mayor Marco Almeida stated that the allocation aims to ensure that financial difficulties do not prevent access to essential services.
