Sintra Socialist Party opposes new intermunicipal landfill

The Socialist Party (PS) in the Sintra Municipal Council has expressed strong opposition to the construction of a new intermunicipal landfill in the municipality. Represented by Carlos Vieira, the party criticized the decision-making process as “opaque governance” conducted “behind closed doors.”

Mayor Marco Almeida committed to hosting the new landfill to address the closure of the Abrunheira landfill. However, the PS claims the intention was only made public after questioning from other political groups, and they have criticized the rejection of requests for extraordinary municipal assemblies to debate waste management. Currently, five potential locations within the municipality are under study, including the Negrais area.
