Siomara Alonzo cares for 59 rescued dogs in Quetzaltenango

Siomara Alonzo, a retired educator in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, has dedicated her life to animal rescue after a transformative encounter in 2007. Her journey began when she rescued a severely injured dog she named Osa, who had been found on a sidewalk with significant skin loss.

Following Osa's four-year life with her, Alonzo transitioned from occasional assistance to full-time care for animals in need. She currently provides a home for 59 dogs, focusing on those that are elderly, sick, injured, or disabled and would otherwise struggle to survive on the streets.
