Sioux Falls expands healthcare education and urban development
Sioux Falls is seeing significant infrastructure and educational expansion through several new projects. The Sioux Falls Development Foundation recently hosted three groundbreaking ceremonies. These include The Switchyard, a mixed-use development featuring a 60,000-square-foot office building and approximately 270 residential units, as well as a new full-service Plains Commerce Bank branch in Jefferson Heights. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls broke ground on Cliffview Heights, an affordable housing project consisting of eight twin-homes providing 16 residential units for income-qualified households.
In the healthcare sector, South Dakota State University (SDSU) has officially opened the SDSU Metro Center in Sioux Falls. Following a year-long, $19 million renovation of a former grocery and medical equipment facility, the 44,000-square-foot building now centralizes nursing, pharmacy, respiratory care, medical lab science, and public health programs. The facility, gifted to the SDSU Alumni & Foundation by Avera, is expected to serve up to 1,200 healthcare students within the next five years.
