SIPROSA denies closure of child mental health service at Hospital Obarrio

The Provincial Health System (SIPROSA) has denied reports regarding the closure of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (SeSMIJ) at Hospital Obarrio. This clarification follows protests from families and patients concerned about the continuity of psychiatric treatments.

Miguel Ferre Contreras, the medical executive secretary of SIPROSA, stated that the service will continue to operate normally due to the high volume of patients requiring permanent care. He emphasized that the institution has not proposed leaving patients without assistance.

Authorities explained that a new project is being developed at Hospital del Este to create a provincial reference center for complex pediatric psychiatric cases. This initiative aims to address historical gaps in specialized inpatient care, noting that Hospital Obarrio is traditionally focused on adult patients and requires specific pediatric support for minors.
