Sir Billy Boston, rugby league legend, dies aged 92

Sir Billy Boston, a legendary rugby league player for Wigan and Great Britain, has died at the age of 92. Born in Cardiff in 1934, Boston transitioned from rugby union to rugby league in 1953, joining the Wigan Warriors.

During his 16 seasons with Wigan, he set remarkable records, including 478 tries in 488 appearances. His career total reached 571 tries, a British record. On the international stage, he was a pioneer as the first non-white player to tour Australia and New Zealand with Great Britain, contributing to the team's 1960 World Cup victory.

In 2025, Boston made history by becoming the first rugby league player to receive a knighthood, recognizing his immense contributions to the sport.
