Sir Chris Hoy pushes for UK prostate cancer screening programme

Six‑time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy, who was diagnosed with stage‑four prostate cancer in 2023, says he is responding well to treatment and uses his profile to campaign for a national screening programme. Prostate cancer kills more than 12,000 men a year in the UK, yet there is currently no systematic screening.

Hoy has called on government officials, including Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, to develop a proactive screening system that could detect the disease earlier. He hopes a meeting with Burnham will help shape policy, and he continues to raise funds through charity rides, aiming to exceed the £3.1 million raised last year. Hoy stresses that early detection could prevent many deaths and urges men over 40 to get tested.
