Sir JJ Hospital expansion in Mumbai faces significant delays

The super-speciality expansion project at Mumbai’s Sir JJ Hospital is facing significant delays. Originally scheduled to become operational by December 2023, the project remains incomplete nearly three years past its deadline due to construction setbacks, staffing uncertainties, and the absence of an occupation certificate.

While the external structures of the four new wings are largely finished, critical internal work is still pending. This includes the installation of lifts and escalators, which are essential for outpatient departments located on lower floors, as well as obtaining mandatory fire safety clearances. The delay continues to impact the hospital’s ability to expand services and ease pressure on its existing infrastructure, which currently serves over 3,000 daily outpatients.
