Sir John Sawers claims Israel assassinated Ali Larijani

Sir John Sawers, the former head of the British intelligence agency MI6, has claimed that Israel intentionally assassinated Ali Larijani, the late Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Speaking on a Financial Times podcast, Sawers suggested the motive behind the assassination was to prevent the possibility of a peace agreement that could have been acceptable to both sides. He described Larijani as the only individual capable of playing a central and key role in facilitating such a deal.

Sawers also criticized the military actions of Washington and Tel Aviv, labeling a military strike on Iran as a ‘big mistake’ lacking clear justification or objectives. He noted a trend toward the ‘militarization’ of the Iranian government, observing that civilian figures are being sidelined in favor of military elements. Regarding regional stability, Sawers predicted that while the situation will remain complex and difficult in the short term, regional countries will eventually establish a pattern of interaction and coexistence with Iran.
