Siracusa-Catania motorway accident leaves two seriously injured

A violent collision between a car and a van occurred on the Siracusa-Catania motorway between the Melilli and Sortino interchanges. The accident, which took place while vehicles were traveling toward Catania, resulted in two serious injuries.

Emergency responders, including three ambulances, the Fire Brigade, and the State Police, attended the scene. Due to the severity of the injuries, an emergency helicopter was deployed to transport one victim, suffering from multiple trauma, to the Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania. The second injured person was taken to a hospital in Siracusa.

The collision caused significant traffic disruptions, with queues reaching two kilometers in the northbound direction. Authorities managed the flow by diverting vehicles at the Melilli junction. The area was cleared and reopened to traffic around 12:30 PM following safety operations by the Fire Brigade and Anas personnel.
