Siracusa corruption investigation targets public contracts

The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) has launched an investigation in Siracusa, Sicily, into an alleged illicit system involving the management of municipal public contracts. Known as the “Nexus” investigation, the operation involves the Digos police force and has resulted in seven precautionary measures issued by a judge for preliminary investigations.

Investigators are targeting a suspected criminal association composed of politicians and entrepreneurs. The group is alleged to have manipulated public procurement procedures through a complex corruption system. The current investigative focus is on reconstructing the mechanisms used to influence contract awards and identifying the specific roles and responsibilities of those involved in managing public orders.
