Siracusa Council addresses SAC airport privatization and provincial future

The Libero Consorzio Comunale di Siracusa has unanimously approved an agenda regarding the privatization of SAC, the company managing the Catania-Fontanarossa and Comiso airports. As a public shareholder with a 12.13% stake, the Council aims to ensure transparency and protect public interests, emphasizing that the airports are vital for the economic and touristic development of eastern Sicily.

Local political tensions are also rising regarding the future of the Siracusa provincial entity. President Michelangelo Giansiracusa sparked debate by suggesting the potential redistribution of the province's competencies to neighboring Ragusa or Catania to address the entity's financial difficulties. This proposal has faced sharp criticism from center-right officials, who argue it undermines the province's institutional identity and autonomy.

In Modica, political discussions have emerged regarding the reorganization of local healthcare services. Following a meeting with the Director General of the ASP of Ragusa, representatives from Fratelli d’Italia addressed concerns over the relocation of the Guardia Medica service, defending the move as a transition to a more modern facility within the Casa di Comunità.
