Siracusa councilor proposes new road link to reduce traffic

Alessandra Barbone, a city councilor for Forza Italia, has submitted a motion to establish the procedure for creating a road connection between the SS124 toward Floridia and Viale Epipoli in Siracusa.

The proposed infrastructure is described as a strategic artery intended to alleviate vehicular traffic congestion currently affecting Viale Paolo Orsi and the Via Columba-Via Ermocrate junction. The need for this connection is reportedly exacerbated during summer months due to classical performances and the anticipated development of a new hospital in Siracusa.

The motion, set for discussion at the next city council session, calls on the municipal administration to provide a formal response regarding the competent institutional body for the road's management and its relationship with Anas. It also requests a technical feasibility study, an assessment of structural costs through various engineering solutions, the identification of potential funding sources, and a preliminary timeline for the project's preparatory activities.
