Siracusa City Council approves budget adjustment and urban investments
The Siracusa City Council has approved a budget adjustment and forecast for the 2026-2028 period. The measure passed with 19 votes in favor, 3 against, and 5 abstentions. The adjustment includes a shift of approximately 1.26 million euros for the current year, driven by administrative surpluses and incoming funds. For 2027 and 2028, increases of 303,000 euros are planned for both revenue and expenditure, primarily sourced from state and regional transfers.
Key investments include 48.4 million euros allocated to the Functional Urban Area (FUA) program over three years, intended for various urban works. Additionally, 350,000 euros have been earmarked for the extraordinary maintenance and redevelopment of municipal properties on via Vermexio and via Barresi. The via Vermexio site is slated to become the headquarters for the Santa Lucia district and a digital multimedia library, while the via Barresi site will serve as a library.
The budget approval also highlighted a shifting political landscape, as the measure was supported by a broader coalition than the formal majority, including members from Forza Italia and the Insieme list. The Democratic Party (PD) voted against the entire maneuver.
