Siracusa Hospital Umberto I Opens Pediatric Allergy Clinic

A new pediatric allergy outpatient service began operating on Monday, 13 July, in the Pediatrics department of Umberto I Hospital in Siracusa. The clinic, set up on the initiative of health director Salvatore Madonia and run by pediatric department head Massimo Barbagallo, will be open each Monday morning for patients aged 0‑17.

The service offers specialist allergy consultations, prick‑testing for inhalant, food and drug allergens, and spirometry to assess lung function. It will treat chronic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, asthma, food and drug allergies, urticaria, angio‑edema and anaphylaxis, and will monitor allergen‑specific immunotherapy and moderate‑to‑severe atopic dermatitis. The unit is also authorized to prescribe the biologic therapy Dupilumab.

Appointments require a referral from a paediatrician or general practitioner and can be booked by phone (0931 312525), through local pharmacies, CUP desks, the ASP Siracusa online health portal, or by email (cup.prenotazioni@asp.sr.it). Patients are advised to discontinue antihistamines at least seven days before their visit to avoid affecting test results.
