Siracusa Mayor Francesco Italia releases satire targeting Roberto Vannacci
Francesco Italia, the Mayor of Siracusa, has released a satirical parody of Francesco De Gregori’s song ‘Generale’ to criticize General Roberto Vannacci and the political movement Futuro Nazionale. The rewritten lyrics target Vannacci’s political stances, specifically addressing themes of racism, gender-based violence, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Mayor Italia stated that the parody was prompted by increasingly “hallucinatory” political statements and expressed concern over the silence of other political actors regarding issues such as the potential abolition of the crime of femicide. He noted that the satirical approach was intended to voice his unease and counter a perceived one-sided narrative.
The parody has generated significant social media engagement, drawing both support and criticism. Local reports indicate that Vannacci’s movement, Futuro Nazionale, has seen significant growth in the province of Siracusa, with nearly 2,000 registered members, making it the leading area for the movement in Sicily.
