Siracusa unions call for legality protocol in public procurement
Following the Nexus case, the CGIL and FILLEA CGIL unions in Siracusa have called on the municipal administration to implement a protocol for legality, safety, and labor quality in public procurement.
Union leaders Franco Nardi and Eleonora Barbagallo proposed that the city establish shared rules with social partners to strengthen prevention against criminal infiltration, combat irregular work, and ensure the correct application of collective contracts. The proposal suggests using the model established by the Municipality of Naples in September 2024, which includes anti-mafia checks, financial traceability, and monitoring of subcontracts.
The unions are requesting that Mayor Francesco Italia initiate discussions with CGIL, CISL, and UIL to create a permanent monitoring table. This body would oversee compliance with labor standards and prioritize work quality over the lowest-bid logic to protect worker health and employment levels.
