Siracusa water crisis prompts calls for emergency hotline

Residents in Siracusa are facing significant disruptions to the water supply, including prolonged service interruptions and low water pressure. Local councilor Paolo Cavallaro of Fratelli d’Italia has criticized the current management, stating the situation has exceeded all reasonable limits of tolerability.

Cavallaro highlighted difficulties in communicating with the utility provider, Aretusacque, noting that citizens report telephone wait times approaching one hour without receiving assistance. He has called on the Municipality of Siracusa to intervene by establishing a dedicated emergency water hotline to collect reports and coordinate with the provider.

The councilor emphasized the impact on vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, and questioned the necessity of regular billing while service remains inadequate. He also suggested the need for alternative services, such as water tankers and Civil Protection assistance, to support affected families.
