Siracusa water crisis prompts urgent talks with provider Aretusa Acque

The CNA trade union in Siracusa has formally asked Aretusa Acque’s director, Dr. Cocozza, for an urgent meeting to explain the ongoing water‑supply disruptions in the city’s historic centre. The union says the outages are harming commercial, craft and tourism activities during the peak season and wants clear information on the causes, repair timelines and a rapid communication channel.

A separate video conference was held between the Ortigia Citizens’ Committee and Aretusa Acque. While the committee notes some improvement, more than half of surveyed users still report irregular pressure or insufficient flow, especially in the elevated Zone 2 of the island. Aretusa Acque pledged continuous work to remedy the deficits and agreed to keep an ongoing dialogue with residents and businesses.

Both parties stress that full normalisation will be achieved only when water reaches all taps with regular pressure, including those on higher floors.
