Sirente Velino Regional Park acquires 55 anti-bear coops

The Sirente Velino Regional Park has purchased 55 anti-bear chicken coops to assist local livestock farmers. The initiative is funded by the Abruzzo Region through resources allocated for the conservation of the Marsican brown bear.

Francesco D’Amore, President of the Sirente Velino Park, stated that the funding provides a concrete response to the needs of farmers and the challenges posed by wildlife presence. The goal is to use prevention as a tool to facilitate coexistence between human activities and protected fauna, reducing conflicts with bears.

The funding, provided by the Abruzzo Region's Forest and Park Services Directorate, also extends to the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park, the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Regional Nature Reserve, and the Sagittario Gorges Reserve. Priority for the delivery of these 55 coops is being given to farmers within the Sirente Velino territory who have suffered damage caused by bears over the last two years.
