Sirmium Chess Club wins bronze at European Club Cup

The Sirmium chess club from Sremska Mitrovica secured third place and a bronze medal at the European Club Cup held in Budva, Montenegro. The tournament, organized by the European Chess Union and the Chess Federation of Montenegro, featured competitions in both open and women's categories.

In the women's division, Sirmium clinched the bronze medal after a decisive 3.5:0.5 victory over the top team from Azerbaijan in the final round. The tournament was won by Monte Carlo from Monaco, with Gambit from Luxembourg taking second place. This achievement follows the club's silver medal performance in the previous year's European Club Cup.

In addition to the team success, individual members of the Sirmium squad earned medals: Nurgul Salimova won gold, Leja Garifulina took silver, and Polina Shuvalova earned bronze. The team members included Teodora Injac and reserve player Ksenija Balabajeva. Captain Dragan Lazić expressed pride in the team's results following their strong performance in the final round.
