Sisak Diocese holds Priests' Day to discuss Caritas mission

The Sisak Diocese held a Priests' Day at the ‘Juran i Sofija’ hall in Sisak, presided over by Bishop Vlado Košić. A central feature of the meeting was a lecture by Sister Jelena Lončar, director of Caritas Zagreb Archdiocese, regarding the role of parish Caritas organizations.

Sister Lončar emphasized that parish Caritas should serve as the heart of the parish, acting as an organized expression of Christian love rather than mere social activism. She highlighted the necessity of cooperation between parish, diocesan, and national Caritas networks to address complex needs. As a specific example, she noted a recent case where collaboration between the Sisak, Zagreb, and Croatian Caritas organizations, alongside a local car dealership, provided a vehicle for a family in the Petrinja area to transport a critically ill child to medical treatments in Zagreb.

Currently, 25 of the 63 parish communities within the Sisak Diocese have active parish Caritas branches. Over the past year, these organizations provided assistance to 585 families in need.
