Sissala West community receives livelihood assets and solar water facility

In the Sissala West District of Ghana’s Upper West Region, 100 vulnerable women and youth in the Fatchu community have received livelihood assets, professional start-up tools, and a solar-powered mechanised water facility.

The initiative is part of the ‘Preventing and Responding to Violent Extremism in the Atlantic Corridor’ project. Supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the governments of Denmark and Norway, the Upper West Regional Peace Council (UWRPC), and CAPECS, the project integrates climate-smart agriculture with peacebuilding efforts to address socio-economic vulnerabilities.

Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuing described the intervention as an investment in peace and productivity. He noted that the solar-powered facility would reduce dependence on rainfall, allowing for year-round agricultural production. The Minister urged community leaders to establish transparent management systems for the facility to prevent vandalism and environmental degradation, while encouraging beneficiaries to move toward value addition and market access.
